Read this before you apply
No direct deposit does not mean no requirements. These offers can still ask you to fund the account, keep a minimum balance for a set number of days, make a certain number of debit card purchases, enroll in eStatements, join a credit union, live in a particular state, or be new to the bank. Some carry a monthly fee unless you meet a waiver condition. The one thing we can promise about every account listed here is the direct deposit part.
Some of these banks do ask for a direct deposit and then name an alternative that counts instead, in their own terms: 20 debit card purchases, one preauthorized automatic draft, or a recurring transfer in from another bank.
