Open Essential Checking
Open a new Essential Checking account during the promotion (October 1 to December 31, 2026). You need a Vantage West membership, which you qualify for if you live, work, worship, attend school, or volunteer in Pima, Pinal, Cochise, or Maricopa County, the Gila River Reservation, or the Copper Basin. The minimum opening deposit is $20.

Deposit an aggregate $1,500 in new qualifying ACH credits and/or direct deposits into the new Essential Checking account within 45 days of opening.
5 debit card purchases in 45 days
Complete 5 qualifying debit card point-of-sale purchase transactions with the Essential Checking debit card within 45 days of opening.
The bank credits 20,000 Rewards Points ($200 cash value) to your rewards account within 30 days of the date the last requirement is met.

- Essential Checking is free with eStatements. Choosing paper statements adds a monthly service fee (waived for ages 17 and under and 65 and over).
Keep the account open at least 6 months. If it is closed within 6 months you may have to repay the bonus.
Eligibility
Not eligible if you have had any checking relationship with Vantage West in the past 6 months.
- Membership: you live, work, worship, attend school, or volunteer in Pima, Pinal, Cochise, or Maricopa County, the Gila River Reservation, or the Copper Basin; or you are a Davis-Monthan Air Force Base member or civilian employee; or you are immediate family of a Vantage West member.
- Limit one new Essential Checking account per membership and per member.
Tips & Gotchas
- →No payroll direct deposit is required. ACH credits count toward the $1,500, so a transfer-in that arrives as an ACH credit may qualify, but the bank does not say which ACH credits are "qualifying". If you can, use a payroll or benefits deposit.
- →The bonus is paid as 20,000 Rewards Points with a stated $200 cash value, credited to your Vantage West rewards account. Read the Vantage West Rewards terms before you count on the cash.
- →Keep the account open at least 6 months. If it is closed sooner you may be asked to repay the bonus.
- →Choose eStatements. Essential Checking is only free with them.
- →Existing checking members, and anyone who had a Vantage West checking relationship in the past 6 months, are not eligible.
Can You Earn This Bonus Again?
Fine Print
To qualify for the 20,000 Rewards Points bonus ($200 cash value) you must open a new Essential Checking account during the promotional period and complete each of the following within 45 days of checking account opening: 1) Deposit an aggregate total of $1500 in new qualifying ACH credits and/or direct deposits into the new Essential Checking account; and 2) Complete five (5) qualifying debit card point-of-sale (POS) purchase transactions using the associated debit card. Promotion runs October 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026. Your checking account must remain open for at least 6 months. If it is closed within 6 months of the open date you may be responsible for reimbursement of any bonus awarded.
