How many banks actually tell you if they check ChexSystems?

We checked every active bank bonus account we track for a plain statement on ChexSystems screening. Only 2 of 122 accounts, both from Chime, come from a bank that says outright it does not run this kind of check. Another 45 say nothing either way.

Updated August 2026

Before a bank pays you a bonus, it usually pulls your ChexSystems file first. A bad record there can get an application denied before you ever see the money. What almost nobody tells you upfront is whether a given bank even runs that check.

So we counted. We went through the 122 active bank bonus accounts we track and looked for a plain statement, anywhere in the bank's own disclosures, account agreement, or bonus terms, about whether it screens ChexSystems-style banking history before approving an account. Two accounts, both from Chime, come from a bank that states outright it does not run this kind of check. That's 2 out of 122, or about 2%.

Another 45 accounts, 37% of what we track, had no statement either way. Not in the account agreement, not on the bonus page, nowhere we could find it. We mark those "not disclosed" in our own data rather than guess, because guessing wrong here can cost you a hard denial and a ding on your record.

The remaining 75 accounts, 61%, default in our data to assuming the bank does screen. That is a conservative assumption on our part, not a confirmed fact about any one of those 75 banks. We have not gone bank by bank verifying that each one actually pulls a ChexSystems-style report, so we are not naming names in that group. It is the safer default when a bank hasn't told you otherwise, and treating an unconfirmed default as a fact about a specific bank would be worse than not saying anything.

Practically, that leaves three buckets when you're picking which bonus to chase. Chime's checking bonus is one of the few where the bank has actually told you no, it won't run this kind of screen. The 45 "not disclosed" accounts are a blind application, you genuinely cannot know your odds from anything public. And the rest are places where our best information is an assumption, not a confirmation. If your banking history has a blemish, pull your free ChexSystems report at consumerdebit.com before you apply anywhere outside that first group, and start with the accounts where a bank has actually said no.

We'll keep this count current as our catalog grows and as banks change what they disclose. Browse every bank bonus we track to see where a specific account you're considering falls.
