Open savings and add checking
Open an America First savings account, which is the $1 membership share, and add a checking account. Doing both is what earns the first $150.
Receive $1,000 in direct deposits
Receive at least $1,000 in direct deposits within 60 days of opening to earn the additional $200. Bank-to-bank transfers, peer-to-peer payments through Venmo, Zelle, PayPal or Apple Pay, wire transfers and internal transfers do not count.
Keep the accounts open 12 months
Keep the accounts open and untransferred for 12 months. Closing or transferring either one inside a year forfeits the bonus.
America First deposits the cash within 60 days of you meeting the requirements, so with a 60-day deposit window expect it about four months after you join.
Account Details
You forfeit the bonus if the accounts are closed or transferred within 12 months, so plan on keeping them open for a full year.
Eligibility
Primary owners of America First accounts opened within the last 12 months are not eligible, and neither are employees, volunteers, or business, secondary and special accountholders.
- Membership is geographic and county-level rather than statewide. It covers Salt Lake, Utah and Juab counties in Utah plus eligible areas of Cache, Davis, Iron, Rich, Washington and Weber; Clark and Lincoln counties in Nevada except within 25 miles of the Alamo post office, plus eligible areas of nine more; Maricopa county in Arizona plus eligible areas of Mohave, Pima, Page and St. Johns; eligible areas of 16 Idaho counties; Malheur county in Oregon; eligible areas of 12 New Mexico counties; and eligible areas of San Bernardino county in California.
- You can also qualify through Utah food-industry employment, a select employer group or affiliated association, or by being immediate family or household of an existing member.
Tips & Gotchas
- →The bonus stacks in two pieces. $150 lands just for opening the savings share and adding checking, and the other $200 needs $1,000 in direct deposits inside 60 days.
- →The savings account is the membership share, so it is not an extra hoop. It takes $1 to open.
- →The direct deposit definition is strict. Pushing money from another bank, or sending it through Venmo, Zelle, PayPal or Apple Pay, will not trigger the $200.
- →The 12-month retention rule has teeth. Closing or transferring the accounts inside a year forfeits what you were paid.
- →Membership is county-level, not statewide. Being in one of the seven states is not enough on its own, so check the field of membership before applying.
- →There is no promo code, no debit card spending requirement and no minimum balance to maintain.

An electronic payment sent directly into your bank account, usually from an employer or government.
Does Zelle Count as Direct Deposit for Bank Bonuses?
Usually no. At most banks a Zelle payment arrives coded as peer-to-peer and will not trigger the bonus. Citi is the clear exception. Its Enhanced Direct Deposit terms name Zelle as a qualifying deposit, and every Zelle report we have from Citi got paid.
What is a hold period?
The minimum time you must keep your balance in an account before the bonus is paid out.
