Open Rewards Checking
Open a new Cash Rewards Checking or Cash Back Rewards Checking account with a minimum opening deposit of $200 and mention promo code LOCALBONUS. If you apply online, a Member Service Representative calls you back to finish opening the account and you have to mention the code on that call.
Receive $1,500 in direct deposits
Receive recurring qualifying direct deposits totaling at least $1,500 within 90 days of account opening. Payroll, Social Security, pension, and government benefits count. Deposits made through a teller, Zelle transactions, ATM deposits, and deposits made in the Air Academy mobile app are all ineligible.
Make one debit card purchase
Post and clear one purchase transaction with your Visa debit card within 90 days of account opening.
Air Academy credits the bonus within 60 business days after you meet the requirements, which is roughly 84 calendar days, so expect a long wait after your last qualifying transaction.

Not available to existing Rewards Checking account holders, to anyone with an account closed in the past 180 days, to anyone who closed an account with a negative balance in the last three years, or to anyone who has previously received an Air Academy checking reward or bonus.

- →The direct deposit rule is strict. Teller deposits, Zelle, ATM deposits, and the Air Academy mobile app are all named as ineligible, so a transfer you push yourself will not work here. You need a real recurring paycheck or benefits payment.
- →Only one debit card purchase is required, which is unusually light. The 90 day window is generous too.
- →You must be a Colorado resident to qualify for the bonus, even though credit union membership reaches a wider group.
- →Budget $200 to open the account. That minimum opening deposit is part of the bonus requirements.
- →Closing within 180 days costs $25, and the bonus itself can take 60 business days to arrive after you finish, so plan on leaving the account open a while.
- →Doctor of Credit still shows this offer at $225. Air Academy’s own page says $250, and the bank page is what governs.
