Requirements

Last verified: Aug 22, 2026

  1. Join and open checking

Join Service 1st and open a qualified checking account. Membership requires a savings account holding at least $5 plus a one time $1 membership fee. You have to present or mention this offer at the time the account is opened.

  2. Enroll in debit card, digital banking, and eStatements

Enroll in a Service 1st Visa debit card, Digital Banking, and eStatements. This is part of the first $150.

  3. One debit card transaction

Make one transaction with the Service 1st Visa debit card within 30 days of membership opening. Completing this along with the enrollments earns the first $150.

  4. $250 direct deposit

Establish a qualifying direct deposit to the new checking account within 30 days of checking account opening. The minimum is a regular $250 deposit. This earns the second $150.

The credit union pays the bonus within 90 business days after every requirement is met. Ninety business days is roughly four calendar months, so counting the 30 day requirement window, budget about five months from opening.

Eligibility

Minimum age18+
Existing customersNot eligible

Existing Service 1st checking account holders are not eligible. The offer is limited to one checking account bonus per member.

Other restrictions
  • Membership by location is limited to qualified census tracts inside Carbon, Columbia, Luzerne, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Sullivan, Union, and Wyoming counties in Pennsylvania. Living in one of those counties is not enough on its own. Look up your tract on the FFIEC geocoding site first.
  • You can also join by working for one of the credit union's Select Employer Groups, or by having an immediate family member who is already a member or who works for a Select Employer Group.
  • Membership requires a savings account holding at least $5, plus a one time $1 membership fee.
  • Business accounts are excluded from the bonus.

Tips & Gotchas

  • The $300 is two $150 halves. One debit card transaction plus the enrollments earns the first $150, and the direct deposit earns the second. You keep the first $150 even if you never set up a direct deposit.
  • A regular $250 deposit clears the direct deposit half. That is one of the lowest bars on this site, so you do not need to move an entire paycheck.
  • A qualifying direct deposit is an automatic electronic deposit from someone else, such as an employer or a government agency. Deposits you push yourself through digital banking or an internet payment provider do not count.
  • Check your census tract before you apply. The county path only covers qualified census tracts inside the nine listed Pennsylvania counties, so living in the county is not enough. Look your address up on the FFIEC geocoding site.
  • If your tract does not qualify, you may still be eligible through a Select Employer Group or through an immediate family member who is already a member.
  • You have to mention the offer while the account is being opened. There is no way to add it afterward.
  • Keep the account open at least six months. Closing sooner lets the credit union deduct the bonus from your balance on the way out.
  • The two clocks start at slightly different points. The debit transaction runs 30 days from membership opening and the direct deposit runs 30 days from checking account opening, so do not leave either to the last day.
