Fine Print
Open a new EZChoice Checking, MyChoice Plus Checking, MyChoice Plus Checking with Interest or MyChoice Premium Checking account between 8/1/2026 and 10/31/2026 and receive a total of at least $500 in qualifying direct deposits within 90 days of account opening. Qualifying direct deposits include recurring electronic deposits of payroll, pension or Social Security. Person-to-person, bank transfers or other electronic money transfers do not qualify. The bonus will be credited within 90 days of the account receiving the required qualifying direct deposits, as long as the account is still open at the time we seek to credit the bonus. Only one bonus will be awarded per customer.

What Counts as a Direct Deposit for M&T Bank Bonuses?
M&T's official terms are narrow, counting only recurring payroll, pension, or Social Security and excluding P2P and internet-payment transfers. But based on 227 community data points, M&T's coding is loose for some senders and strict for others. Fidelity Cash Management (20 of 21), Schwab checking (10 of 10), and even Cash App cash-outs (9 of 9) reliably code as direct deposits, while Chase personal and KeyBank pushes consistently fail.
What is a direct deposit?
An electronic payment sent directly into your bank account, usually from an employer or government.
Does Zelle Count as Direct Deposit for Bank Bonuses?
Usually no. At most banks a Zelle payment arrives coded as peer-to-peer and will not trigger the bonus. Citi is the clear exception. Its Enhanced Direct Deposit terms name Zelle as a qualifying deposit, and every Zelle report we have from Citi got paid.
